Baby's First Oil Painting

First four grad school classes were all charcoal. Now it seems I've moved onto the oil paints stage. I'd never painted at all before. Crafts, sure. Canvas... well, does a backdrop for our Silent Hill skit count? This is the first time I've picked up oils though. I've got mixed feelings. I haven't quite got the hang of it, and in some places I found that my brush actually will pick UP paint that was already on the canvas after it's sat for a day. Which is annoying, but shows me maybe I don't have quite as long a working time as I thought? Hm. Anyway. yes. Drapery. Whoopee.

LOOK AT THAT FUCKING DRAPERY. HOLY SHIT SON, THAT IS SOME FINE-ASS DRAPERY. WHAT IS THAT, COTTON? YOU COULD DRY YOURSELF AFTER A SHOWER WITH THAT, I AM 100% BALLS-DEEP SERIOUS. YOU COULD COVER SOME FURNITURE AND KEEP THE DUST OFF OF IT, FUCK! YOU ALL KNOW YOU WANT SOME OF THAT SHIT.

That is, actually, some awesome work. The lighting's perfect. Oil paints escape me utterly.

HOMG SHUT UP! You've never touched oils before and you produced that D= How long did it take......? Just curious, time doesn't matter it still came out amazingly~

Anyway some people do take to oils and I think you're one of them~! It looks super realistic and I'm jealous of your oil skills lol

Great for your first painting!

That looks great for a first try! The shading is amazing.

I could never really work with oils for long because the EAU DE LINSEED gave me the most awful migraines. DX

But working with acrylics is a lot of fun! I know people mostly just use them for costumes, but on paper, they create vibrant color that dries quickly and is very forgiving!

It's really realistic! And damn, fabric is hard to paint and draw too. I'm totally impressed you haven't painted before.

dude, i toootally just saw that right now. it looked like a totally realistic painting of drapery floating in mid air.

i'm completely serious, bro! :O~

AAHHhh I love oils :333

AND THIS IS BEAUTIFUL, SHUT UP JESS

Oh my! :D It looks so luscious and crisp! I've heard a lot about oil > acrylic--true that? Very nicely done--good, thoughtful grouping of shadow shapes and everything!

Well I don't know anything about art but I think it looks quite good. Is is hard to blend oils? Because I think you pulled off the shadows very well.

PS - I will reply to your pm re commission shortly! I haven't forgotten about it.
